STAY VIKING PARK CAMPING, MIDDELKERKE – BELGIUM

Middelkerke – Belgium

Stay Viking Park Camping is a campsite located in the coastal town of Middelkerke, in West Flanders, surrounded by nature and just a few kilometers from the Zwin Natuur Park, one of Belgium’s most important natural treasures.

Declared a Natural Park in 1952, this nature reserve covers an area of 150 hectares and is known for its unique biodiversity and bird migration site. It offers a wide variety of habitats, including dunes, marshes, meadows, and coastal forests, providing vital refuge for migratory birds as well as many other wildlife species.

In addition to this Natural Park, Stay Viking Park Camping is situated next to the renovated cycling network of West Flanders, with over 3,000km of greenways for cyclists.

100% SOLAR LIGHTING

As part of its sustainability and decarbonization plan, and due to its privileged location, Stay Viking Park Camping decided to opt for solar lighting solutions to illuminate its various areas: sleeping sector with 250 bungalows, bar/restaurant, playground, and farm. To this end, it contacted our partner Euro-Luce in Belgium for the supply of Carandini’s Ceres solar solution, an all-in-one luminaire powered exclusively by solar energy.

0% ELECTRICAL CONSUMPTION AND OVER 2,000 CHARGE CYCLES

The Carandini Ceres solar lighting solution is equipped with a monocrystalline silicon integrated solar panel and a deep-cycle battery capable of charging and discharging over 2,000 charge cycles. It includes a motion sensor for greater savings and prolongation of the product’s lifetime, and it allows for Self-replaceable battery without having to change the entire luminaire.

It features a tiltable LED module up to ±45º to adapt the panel to the angle of maximum sunlight capture (-10º to +40º), achieving greater efficiency and savings.

Additionally, it includes a programmable controller that allows for customization of the required lighting levels at each time of the day. In the case of Stay Viking Park Camping, to achieve maximum efficiency and savings, an automatic programming was performed so that Ceres would operate with the appropriate lighting level to ensure its operation every night of the year.

This remote control not only enables adjustment of lighting parameters but also provides data on the performance and operation of the luminaire. It performs fault analysis and allows for checking the operational status of the solar light point, among other functions.

ECONOMIC SAVINGS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CARE

To meet the client’s needs, Carandini’s lighting studies department conducted an analysis of the area to determine the best dimensioning and placement of these light points, considering the location and existing solar radiation.

As a result, 32 Ceres luminaires powered exclusively by solar energy were installed without electrical connection, achieving significant economic savings and minimizing carbon footprint.

The camping director, Henk Dierendonck, is excited about this new lighting system and highlights its high quality, energy efficiency, and ease of installation. “The fact that we don’t need any infrastructure or wiring has allowed us to carry out a quick, simple, and much cheaper installation,” he says. Additionally, Dierendonck adds, “We plan to reduce current energy costs by 15% and estimate that we will have recovered the entire investment in less than five years.”

This new installation not only contributes to the client’s sustainability goals but also reduces environmental impact and cares for the planet.

CERES

Equipped with a monocrystalline silicon solar panel and a deep-cycle battery, the Ceres luminaire can operate autonomously for entire days on a single charge, making it the ideal choice for remote regions and areas without access to electricity.
