Alternative to the EU’s prohibition on T5 and T8 fluorescent lamps

Since last August, within the RoHS directive (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), the European Union has prohibited the commercialization of T5 and T8 fluorescent lamps. This prohibition serves a dual purpose. On one hand, it aims to mitigate health risks associated with human exposure to toxic substances like mercury, found in such lighting fixtures. On the other hand, it seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This action aligns with the EU’s commitment to achieve climate neutrality by 2055, a goal it has pursued over recent years through measures like this.

WATERPROOF LIGHT FIXTURES: ORIGEN, NOVA AND POLAR

Origen, Nova and Polar are Carandini’s new waterproof light fixtures. Manufactured in Spain, they are characterized by high robustness and efficiency.

Origen is designed for warehouses and logistics centers and is made from coextruded polycarbonate. This material ensures IP66 protection, prevents the entry of dust and other contaminants and guarantees the product’s perfect operation for years. It is lightweight, includes three fastening options by staples (to ceiling, wall, and suspended), and a multi-power driver with a switch that allows for two light flows in a single reference.

Designed for high-performance industrial spaces, Nova solution stands out for its excellent performance, 155 lm/W, and a wide range of temperatures it can operate within: from -40º to +55º. It is ideal for freezer rooms, the food industry and dusty environments. It includes anti-vandal closure, high sealing grade, and it is suitable for pressure washing (IP69k), an essential requirement in the food industry.

The Polar watertight fixture can be installed indoors and outdoors and is primarily designed for industrial spaces with high requirements such as farms, slaughterhouses, paper industry, wastewater treatment plants or chemical industries. It is a highly robust luminaire made from methacrylate, a material resistant to UV radiation and chemical components. It includes an emergency kit with up to 3 hours of autonomy and can optionally be mounted in a continuous line and incorporate a sensor.
