BUS STOPS, HITZENDORF – AUSTRIA

Hitzendorf – Austria

Hitzendorf is a small town in the Austrian state of Styria, near the city of Graz. Its history dates back to the 12th century, when it was founded as an agricultural settlement. During the Middle Ages, the area was under the control of different feudal lords, until it became part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the 19th century.

Today, Hitzendorf is a rural community with a population of around 5,000. It is surrounded by green hills and offers many opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling and horse riding.

AUSTRIAN REGULATIONS FOR INTRUSIVE LIGHTING

This beautiful Austrian village wanted to improve its energy efficiency by replacing several discharge luminaires installed at bus stops in the town. To do so, they chose Carandini’s VEKA “M” LED luminaire, a state-of-the-art design with high technical performance and a colour temperature of 3000K.

Austria is governed by an intrusive light standard “Cut-off 0-70°”, which does not allow the light distribution to exceed 70°.

The wide range of optical distributions the VEKA family has allowed us to comply with this regulation while providing excellent light levels, uniformity and energy efficiency.

To minimise the impact on the environment and achieve greater energy savings, VEKA was supplied with an SC driver pre-programmed by time slots, allowing the light to be dimmed at night during off-peak hours.

MORE ENERGY SAVINGS, SAFETY AND COMFORT FOR USERS

The new installation of LED luminaires has resulted in energy savings of more than 50%, as well as increased safety and comfort, especially at night.

Thanks to the new lighting, public transport users can clearly see the location of the stops and read timetables and bus routes. In addition, by eliminating intrusive light, customers waiting for buses now do so in a more pleasant and comfortable way, with no light intrusion, given that the light is directed only where it is needed.

VEKA

Luminaire designed to integrate perfectly into road lighting applications. Thanks to the latest-generation LED technology and the optics it incorporates, it generates a feeling of safety on streets and roads at night. It is certified with the IDA DARK SKY label for dark sky protection.
