L’HOSPITALET DE L’INFANT RAILWAY STATION

L’Hospitalet de l’Infant – Tarragona, Spain

Carandini was responsible for lighting the L’Hospitalet de l’Infant railway station, which redraws the train line between Tarragona and Valencia and frees up the space occupied by the current tracks that cross the nucleus of many neighbourhoods and are on the sea front.

Lighting solution
The project had to meet the lighting levels for each of the zones: Platforms, shelters, car parks, roads and underpasses. Regulatory lumen levels were established, but uniformity should far exceed those requirements for the comfort of users of the areas.

The lighting solutions that Carandini used were V-MAX luminaires for outdoor roads and car parks, Junior on platforms, HFL on shelters, which always provide correct lighting levels, to ensure the safety of people passing through the station.

Planning lighting installations would not be a complete task today without a lighting management solution to match the best technologies available. For this reason, the implementation of a system of regulation of lighting was decided on that would increase the lighting levels of the platforms prior to the arrival of the trains.

In addition, for the entire installation; lighting control for each zone was required in order to adapt energy consumption to opening times, the presence of natural light, and passenger traffic. Finally, all of this would work automatically and be integrated within the overall control software for the facility, using SCADA of the installation, using SCADA technology.

System and architecture proposed
To achieve autonomous operation for the luminaires, it was decided to use the Carandini Controlux Engine system. This system allows a wide range of tailored solutions to be implemented and integrated into the most common communication protocols in the field of industrial automation and smart cities.
For communication with the luminaires, the use of the DALI control cable and protocol was proposed. As an intermittent, high volume infrastructure, communication with the luminaires could be guaranteed without exceeding the limitations of distances and devices within the communication protocol.

In order to regulate each group of luminaires differently, the arrangement of various control BUSES was defined. By using a protocol that allows the identified regulation of luminaires such as the DALI protocol, the number of control buses could be optimised by making 7 control groups with only 5 signal buses.
With the support of a team of specialist installers, the control buses were successfully introduced, with the implementation of the solution focussed on the validation of the software, specifically designed to meet the requirements of the project.

After the validation of the operation of all the luminaires and control devices, integration tests were carried out, which showed that all the variables were mapped correctly and the system reacted rapidly to the regulation instructions.

Results: Adaptation to the requirements in an integrated way
Carandini, with its portfolio of luminaires, was able to respond to the requirements of a project with high technical demands. In addition, with the Controlux Engine system it was possible to design a solution that met the full needs of each area of the facilities. This was possible thanks to the collaboration between the various companies involved in the project, the use of solutions with multiple modular functionalities, and standard industrial communication protocols. An open, flexible solution that allows automatic lighting control systems to be taken one step further, designed to interact with other devices. All of this leaves the door open for the design of facilities that meet current needs, but also those that have not yet been planned at the time of the facility design.

Station shelters

At Carandini, we are pleased to have helped to bring people closer, in addition to reducing the inconvenience and risk from trains passing at high speed through populated areas. At the department of intelligent lighting solutions, we seek to adapt to the needs of each facility, and begin by listening to each of the stakeholders involved in the project. We design solutions that focus on all users who interact with facilities, ensuring that the quality of those solutions lasts over time, users are trained in the use of these solutions, and that they enable them to integrate new devices that may be required in the future.

The system allows the implementation of a wide range of customised solutions and their integration into the most common communication protocols in the field of industrial automation and smart cities.

VMAX – Outside Parking

LED luminaire with a unique design of expandable lumen packs that optimise luminaire performance, lifetime, thermal performance and aesthetic value by allowing light to be directed with excellent efficiency into the street.

Junior – Platforms

The Junior Series is one of the luminaires located for urban environments. Thanks to its functional design and the different versions and accessories available, it has been perfectly integrated into the lighting of parks, promenades, streets and other environmental facilities.

HFL – Roof

The HFL Series is a state-of-the-art LED technology luminaire designed for sports areas, tunnels, urban and industrial environments. Thanks to its functional design and the different versions and accessories available, it can be perfectly integrated into different spaces.
