The Nudo de la Trinidad in Barcelona stands as one of the primary convergence points for vehicles entering and leaving the Catalan capital, holding the title of the city’s busiest traffic hub. Constructed for the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games, this interchange sees a daily flow of over 275,000 vehicles.

In an effort to update the lighting along the stretch connecting the C58 with the Ronda Litoral, the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona opted for Carandini’s VEKA L solution—a reliable product designed for large-scale infrastructures and boasting an efficiency exceeding 150lm/W.  To achieve greater power, customization was performed on this street luminaire, reaching a luminous flux of over 53,000 lumens.

A THOROUGH LIGHTING STUDY, A KEY ELEMENT FOR SUCCESS

The challenge was formidable, considering the stretch’s distinctive features of curves and banking, geographical factors directly impacting glare and lighting uniformity, significantly complicating the project. However, leveraging Carandini’s accumulated expertise over more than 100 years and the versatility of VEKA L’s numerous optics, our lighting studies team successfully implemented excellent lighting without the need to alter the location of the existing luminaires.

ENHANCED SAFETY AND VISUAL COMFORT

The new lighting has effectively reduced glare, improved the driving experience for users, and heightened safety. The achieved uniformity reached 0.86 (UI) and 0.43 (UO).

The installed colour temperature, 4000K, was chosen to optimize visibility on this road stretch. This cooler hue allows for a clear perception of details while driving, contributing to reduced eye strain and increased safety by providing drivers with a faster reaction time.
