Vigo City Council, in Spain, upgraded the city centre’s public lighting with the aim of improving energy efficiency and modernising the lighting in its historic centre through LED technology. The project, carried out by IMES Vigo, involved the installation of Carandini Century luminaires, an LED solution designed to blend naturally into urban environments while providing comfortable, efficient and safe lighting.

A total of 42 Century luminaires with a 3,000 K colour temperature were installed: 16 units rated at 46 W and 26 units rated at 45 W, all with side-entry column fixation. Their contemporary design, combined with a range of optical distributions, made it possible to tailor the lighting to the characteristics of the site, achieving the right balance between functionality, lighting quality and seamless integration into the urban landscape.
To maximise energy efficiency, the installation incorporates a centralised dimming system. This solution allows lighting levels to be adjusted from the control cabinet, reducing luminous flux during periods of lower activity without compromising safety or lighting uniformity. As a result, the installation delivers significant energy savings while adapting lighting levels to the actual needs of each moment.

The upgrade has transformed the lighting throughout Vigo city centre, creating safer, more comfortable and energy-efficient public spaces through warm, high-quality light that enhances the night-time experience for residents and visitors alike.

Century is a lighting concept with a unique design. It presents a contemporary and elegant design, giving the landscape a harmonious visual effect with the environment during the day, while at night it generates a pleasant atmosphere offering a feeling of warmth and security to people.
