El Sargal Sports Hall is the main sports facility in the city of Cuenca and the home of the city’s handball team, which competes in the professional ASOBAL league. It hosts various sports events, including televised professional matches.
OUTDATED AND INEFFICIENT LIGHTING
The lighting of the central indoor court “Paulino Fernández” consisted of 32 metal halide floodlights with a total installed power of 36,000W. This system, over thirty years old, was inefficient and had high energy consumption, making it outdated for current needs. Additionally, it did not meet the requirements that the ASOBAL league demands for professional televised competition.
Given this situation, the Cuenca City Council decided to carry out a lighting renovation with LED floodlights, using the existing power lines.
In order to achieve greater energy savings, the City Council required a system that would allow the adaptation and management of the indoor court’s lighting according to the needs and activities taking place at any given time.

IDEAL SOLUTION FOR SPORTS
In collaboration with the installation company Etralux, we took on the challenge of the renovation, supplying the ATHLOS projector with a power of 600W. This LED luminaire is ideal for high-altitude applications and large sports spaces and is characterized by easy installation, great robustness, and high energy efficiency.
A total of 32 floodlights with a colour temperature of 5700K were installed. This cool light improves visibility and the perception of the colours, allowing athletes to keep their eyes on the ball and accurately distinguish details.
Additionally, we provided the intelligent Controlux Sports solution, a Plug & Play system that allows turning on and off groups of luminaires or individual luminaires, adjusting intensity, scheduling, monitoring their operation and creating dynamic lighting scenarios, all easily and quickly through a free APP.

NEW LIGHTING THAT SAVES MONEY
The new lighting will allow the council to significantly reduce energy costs and provide the appropriate illumination for televised matches.
In addition to lower power consumption, the installed LED technology eliminates the need to turn on the floodlights in advance, as happens with discharge luminaires, saving time and energy.
Another advantage of the new installation is the reduction of maintenance operations. Thanks to the highly resistant materials, the number of necessary interventions will be reduced, thereby lowering associated costs.

In terms of well-being, the new 5700K lighting offers a high-quality bright white light that guarantees excellent playing conditions and greater visual comfort, both for the players on the field and for the spectators in the sports hall or watching the game from home on television.
Thanks to the installed Controlux Sports system, the Cuenca City Council has complete control over the lighting. So far, six different scenarios have been created: one for television broadcasting with lighting at 100%, another focused on the benches and the centre of the court during timeouts, a third illuminating the centre of the sports hall for team presentations, and two more scenes to adjust the lighting to 75% and 50% on the court with the stands off for training or maintenance tasks. The last scene turns off all the luminaires when there is no activity.
All these scenes can be controlled by the sports hall staff quickly and comfortably through the mobile, without the need to access the control panel or have a specialized lighting technician.

Athlos is the new high performance and precision Carandini floodlight designed for sports fields and large spaces where lighting at high altitudes is required.
Allows you to regulate, program, monitor and personalize dynamic lighting scenarios either point by point or by groups of luminaires to create memorable shows for athletes and spectators. Lighting management can be carried out remotely or on-site, using a computer or the mobile app available for tablets and smartphones.
