With over 95 years of history, Fira Internacional de Barcelona is one of the most important trade fair organisations in Europe, recognised for its commitment to innovation and sustainability. A commitment that is reflected in the design of its venues, which are conceived under strict energy efficiency criteria, as well as in its dedication to hosting low-impact environmental events.

As part of this strategy, last year Fira de Barcelona decided to upgrade the lighting system of Hall 8 at Montjuïc to LED technology. ÁMBAR Projectes i Instal·lacions was selected to roll out this project, a company specialised in lighting solutions and that has previously partnered with Carandini in other halls at the trade fair centre. Following the excellent results obtained, ÁMBAR once again chose Carandini to transform this key space.

GREATER EFFICIENCY AND LOWER MAINTENANCE

Before the renovation, Hall 8 had an outdated lighting system consisting of asymmetrical metal halide floodlights and 58W fluorescent tube fixtures, both inefficient technologies with a high environmental impact. In addition to high energy consumption, this installation required constant maintenance, resulting in significant costs in both resources and operations.

To improve efficiency and reduce maintenance needs, 137 Carandini HBL high-bay luminaires were installed, a high-performance solution that delivers uniform, shadow-free lighting with an efficiency of up to 150 lm/W. Specifically designed for industrial and exhibition spaces with high ceilings, these luminaires ensure excellent light distribution and optimal colour rendering, both essential aspects in an environment where companies showcase their latest innovations.

A BRIGHTER AND MORE SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT

Thanks to this upgrade, Hall 8 has become a more energy-efficient space, with 150 lux of illumination and a uniformity level of 0.60, significantly improving visibility and comfort for both exhibitors and visitors. This transformation not only enhances the experience within the venue but also strengthens Fira de Barcelona’s commitment to sustainability, significantly reducing energy consumption and the hall’s environmental footprint.
