Nestled in the heart of the Alto Bernesga Biosphere Reserve, in Castilla y León (Spain), is La Pola de Gordón, a municipality that combines nature and heritage in a unique setting. Its streets, squares, and sports areas blend harmoniously into a landscape where urban planning coexists with greenery, and where lighting is not just a service, but a key element for the safety, comfort, and quality of life of its residents.
LED LIGHTING TO REVITALISE HISTORICAL AND NATURAL HERITAGE
Within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU funds, the City Council undertook a comprehensive public lighting renovation. The old luminaires consumed too much energy and no longer provided adequate or quality illumination.
Ferrovial Energy carried out the upgrade, using Carandini’s Veka, TPL, C-line, and Retrofit luminaires, recognised for their high energy efficiency and long durability.
On road areas, Veka luminaires in sizes N, S, and M were installed; in sports areas, the TPL floodlight was chosen; and for environmental areas, the C-line luminaire was selected. To preserve the classic identity of the lighting points in the town centre, a customised retrofit was designed. All luminaires operate at a colour temperature of 3000K, offering a warm and pleasant light that integrates perfectly into the environment.
SUBSTANTIAL ENERGY SAVINGS WITH IMPROVED LIGHT QUALITY
The renovation has significantly reduced energy consumption, complying with regulations in all urban spaces. Beyond improving safety and lighting quality, this initiative represents an estimated economic saving of €100,000 per year, which the City Council can reinvest in key projects to promote the well-being and development of the municipality.
