MIRAMAR TUNNEL, BARCELONA – SPAIN

Barcelona – Spain

The new emergency solution T-LINE, launched last March, is already operational in Barcelona. This innovative technology has been successfully implemented in the Miramar tunnel, a 135-metre-long infrastructure connecting Carles Ibáñez Square with the Miramar Road. The tunnel has two lanes (one in each direction) and a maximum speed limit of 30 km/h.

The City Council of Barcelona’s goal was to update the evacuation lighting to meet current regulations, as the previous system, based on a point-to-point model, was inefficient and did not meet the requirements of Spanish Royal Decree RD 635/2006 and the UNE EN 60598-2-22 standard for emergency luminaires.

After reviewing various options, the Barcelona City Council chose Carandini’s new T-LINE luminaire, a linear lighting system that not only complies with all the requirements set by Spanish regulations, which establish a maximum height of 1.50 m and a minimum level of 10 lux throughout the evacuation route, but which also provides a guided effect, improving safety and driving experience by eliminating the unwanted flicker effect found in traditional point-to-point systems.

THE STURDIEST LINEAR EMERGENCY SOLUTION ON THE MARKET FOR SAFER TUNNELS

T-LINE is an innovative solution designed in Barcelona by our engineering team. Unlike other linear emergency solutions on the market, it stands out for its exceptional material quality and impressive sturdiness. It features a sealed aluminium profile with an anti-corrosion treatment, offering a superior alternative to plastic polycarbonate, and its design provides continuous light without shadows or glare. To add to that, it removes the bothersome “flicker” effect, a common issue in point-to-point emergency systems.

By not using glass or diffusers, it eliminates the risk of fragmentation and accidents on the road, increasing safety in any type of tunnel.

The luminaire consists of 24 interconnecting modules, creating a 50-metre linear LED strip. This design reduces energy consumption by up to 70% compared to conventional systems and optimises installation and maintenance costs, needing electrical lines only every 50 metres. It does not use adhesives or clips either, and the incorporated brackets are highly resistant and fully adjustable, making installation simple and adaptable to all types of tunnels.

T-LINE: FEWER LIGHT POINTS, BETTER RESULTS

T-LINE is an innovative solution that enables components, such as the LED strip, to be changed without the need to replace the entire luminaire, helping to reduce waste and promoting the circular economy. This technology is up to 80% more sustainable than other emergency solutions, as it requires fewer batteries, resulting in more efficient and environmentally friendly lighting.

Unlike other linear solutions, its shielded design conceals the LED, removing visual discomfort for road users. Moreover, the LED module is housed within an aluminium profile, making it immune to vibrations and temperature changes. Its advanced LED technology ensures minimal energy consumption, with optimised power and luminous flux. The emergency battery provides 90 minutes of autonomy.

A HIGHLY SAFE AND COMFORTABLE LIGHTING SYSTEM SET UP FOR THE FUTURE

The newly installed LED lighting in the Miramar tunnel has greatly enhanced safety, meeting current regulations and providing greater visual comfort for both pedestrians and drivers. The incorporation of the guided effect enhances safety by facilitating orientation during evacuation situations. To add to that, the installation is more efficient and sustainable, and it is designed to easily integrate with any control system, allowing automatic operation management. By incorporating DALI 2, it facilitates preventive maintenance by monitoring the operating hours.

T-LINE

T-LINE is a linear emergency lighting solution designed in Barcelona to enhance safety in tunnels. Its continuous light system ensures near 100% uniformity. Reduced visual fatigue without flicker effect. Made with corrosion-resistant aluminum to increase its lifespan and recyclability. The guided effect improves the driving and evacuation experience.
