Located on the Costa da Morte, halfway between La Coruña and Malpica, Caión is a small traditional fishing town forming part of the municipality of A Laracha in Galicia.
AN OLD WHALING PORT
Its history dates back to the Middle Ages and a period in history when the first fishing towns began to be settled in this area. Centuries later, with the arrival of Basque whalers, Caión became an important whaling port on the Galician coast.
Due to this tradition, the parish of Santa María Socorro de Caión (as it is officially known) encouraged the growth of its port and would go on to witness the installation years later of several salting factories that specialised in sardines and anchovies.
Nowadays, there is little left of that whaling past except for one permanent reminder in the form of a whale that appears on the crest of Larancha Council. Nonetheless, that fishing soul and tradition can still be felt when strolling along the beautiful seafront promenade and visiting its historic fish market or exploring its port.

A PROTECTED NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
The small traditional fishing boats that can be seen in the port and the spectacular coastal landscape of the beaches at As Salseiras, O Cárcere Vello, O Carcoleiro and A Arnela, make up a unique natural space that has been included in the Natura 2000 Network and declared as a Special Protection Area (SPA) for Birds.
In 2022, the local authorities of Caión therefore decided to invest in new, more efficient lighting to protect the environment, these wildlife species and the area’s local inhabitants.
Alongside our partner, INSTALACIONES ELECTRICAS CORUÑESAS, S.L. (INSTELEC), Carandini replaced the old sodium-vapour lamps with our C-LINE solution, an environmentally friendly LED luminaire with a high recyclability percentage that is specifically designed for salty atmospheres.

AN 80% ENERGY SAVING
This new lighting has significantly improved light quality while also reducing light pollution and minimising the impact on local ecosystems. It has also achieved an 80% energy saving, which reduces spending by the local council and allows for investments in additional improvements for the environment, local inhabitants and the parish as a whole.

Its minimalist style, its simple assembly design and its optical distributions make the C-Line luminaire provide a complete lighting solution.
