The Pins Vens rugby field in Sitges, with artificial turf and stands for nearly 300 spectators, is the city’s largest sports facility. It hosts more than 400 athletes from Rugby Club Sitges and Sitges Gaelic Football Club and, since its inauguration in 2020, has become a benchmark venue for local sports development and tourism promotion.

For its construction, the City Council opted for a sustainable model fully integrated into the natural environment of the Garraf. In this context, a large green area of nearly 1,000 m² was created with native vegetation and species, designed to enhance biodiversity in the area.

The design, developed in collaboration with local environmental groups, promotes the creation of natural habitats for wildlife and minimises maintenance requirements, achieving a significant reduction in both water consumption and gardening tasks.

SUSTAINABLE AND ROBUST LIGHTING INTEGRATED INTO THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT OF THE GARRAF

In line with this commitment to sustainability, the council opted for a highly efficient and environmentally responsible lighting system, selecting the Athlos sports floodlight by Carandini. Designed for high-mast installation and equipped with optics specifically developed for large areas, it ensures excellent visibility and uniform illumination across the entire field.

A total of 20 floodlights were installed across the different columns: 12 units with wide-beam optics to provide homogeneous lighting across the entire surface and 8 luminaires with a more intensive distribution to reinforce lighting in areas further from the columns with lower light levels.

These floodlights are made from robust materials that guarantee long-lasting performance even under adverse weather conditions. Thanks to the durability of the LEDs, they provide high-quality lighting for many years, significantly reducing maintenance rates and enabling considerable cost savings for the club.

PERFECT VISIBILITY TO KEEP TRACK OF THE BALL

In rugby, it is essential that the flight of the ball is clearly visible and that both players and spectators can follow the action effortlessly. To achieve this, lighting must be uniform, glare-free and with good colour rendering.

The 20 installed floodlights were configured with a colour temperature of 4,000K, providing bright white light with accurate colour reproduction, offering high visual comfort and allowing players to always keep their eyes on the ball and focus fully on the game.
