19 Apr VEKA family, SPIN and CENTURY receive DARK SKY certification
We are pleased to announce that VEKA, SPIN and CENTURY have achieved the prestigious IDA certification, awarded by the non-profit International Dark Sky Association.
This recognition certifies that these solutions meet all the requirements set in relation to the preservation and protection of dark sky as well as the reduction of light pollution.
To receive this certification, all of the following criteria shall be met:
- Maximum correlated colour temperature of 3000K
- Photometric files are needed to validate performance characteristics
- There is an uplight allowance of 0.5% of total output or 50 lumens; whichever is lower, with no more than 10 lumens in 90-100 degree UL zone. Allowable uplight as a byproduct of the structure and not the source
- Street and area lights must have a pre or post-installation shielding option
- Luminaires are required to have fixed mounts to ensure they are mounted as photometered. There can be up to + or- 10-degree adjustment for levelling if needed
- Luminaires must have dimming capability to 10% of full rating
- Luminaires must have Safety Certification by an independent laboratory
PROTECT DARK SKIES FOR PRESENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS
Throughout the world, more than 80% of the world’s population lives under skies polluted by lighting. This percentage rises to 99% in the case of the United States and Europe, a truly worrying situation against which the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) has been fighting since 1988.
The purpose of this organisation is to make communities aware of the importance of preserving, protecting and creating dark places safe from light pollution all over the world.
At Carandini we work to provide environmentally friendly lighting. We design products considering the most sustainable materials found in our environment. What’s more, we have a team of professionals dedicated to the development of lighting studies designed for the well-being of people.
We focus our business on solving current lighting problems (over-lighting, intrusive light, glare, cold colour temperature and excess light in the upper hemisphere) through luminaires designed to emit low levels of luminous flux into the sky and control systems based on the most advanced technology.
