The N-340 road connects various cities along Spain’s Mediterranean coast and therefore has sections with a high volume of traffic. Lighting along its route through Motril was equipped with a discharge system that proved to be inefficient and offered poor light quality. Although functional, this type of lighting did not provide adequate visibility or accurate colour reproduction, which jeopardised road safety, especially in low night visibility conditions. Additionally, the discharge lamps were less energy-efficient and required more maintenance, resulting in high costs and significant energy wastage.

To address these issues, Carandini worked with UTE A-7 Salobreña to provide a high-quality LED lighting solution that was efficient and enhanced safety while reducing environmental impact.

EFFICIENT, SUSTAINABLE AND CIRCULAR LIGHTING

We conducted a thorough project analysis, carefully studying the characteristics of the road and roundabouts to be illuminated, with the goal of ensuring an optimal lighting design that enhances visibility and, consequently, road safety. Veka luminaire was installed along the different road sections, an environmentally friendly solution certified as Dark Sky, with a recyclability index of over 98% and equipped with high-efficiency LEDs. TPL and Mikos projectors were chosen for roundabouts to ensure uniform and high-quality lighting. The installed colour temperature was 4000K.

INCREASED SAFETY AND ACCESSIBILITY ON THE N-340

The switch to LED lighting has brought the illumination in line with regulations, achieved approximately 45% energy savings and reduced maintenance operations. Thanks to this modernisation, the N-340 road now has more uniform lighting that enhances visibility and, consequently, reduces the risk of accidents. Connections and accessibility in Motril and its surrounding areas have also improved.
