HALL 2 FIRA INTERNACIONAL DE BARCELONA (MONTJUÏC), BARCELONA – SPAIN

Fira Internacional de Barcelona (Montjuïc), Barcelona – SPAIN

FIRA INTERNACIONAL DE BARCELONA

Fira Internacional de Barcelona is one of the major trade fair organisations in Europe and a leader in the Spanish trade fair market.

Every year, it organises and attracts leading international events, such as Alimentaria, Mobile World Congress, Smart City Expo World Congress, Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, IOT Solutions World Congress and the European Congress of Cardiology, to name but a few. Its figures are spectacular: 250 events, fairs and congresses organised every year and 2.5 million visitors from over 200 different countries and territories.

It has three exhibition venues, Montjuïc, Gran Via and CCIB, with a total gross exhibition area of almost 500,000 m², one of the largest in Europe.

A WORLD-CLASS EXHIBITION CENTRE

Built in 1929 for the International Exhibition, the Montjuïc exhibition centre is considered to be one of the most emblematic urban exhibition centres in the world. It is located in Barcelona city centre, within the Parc de Montjuïc, an area of cultural and historical interest, and has 7 different exhibition halls.

Due to the passage of time and evolution of technology, Fira Internacional de Barcelona needed to update the lighting in Hall 2 and the triangular-square annexes with a clear objective: energy efficiency.

After carrying out an audit of the facilities, Carandini, together with our partner Ambar, projectes i instal-lacions, S.L.U., designed a lighting plan to increase lighting levels and make the dispersion more uniform, which involved improving the facilities maintenance. It also achieved a significant reduction in energy costs.

A LINEAR, SUSTAINABLE LIGHTING SOLUTION

The product chosen to light Hall 2 of the Montjuïc exhibition centre was the CTR linear system, a flexible industrial solution comprising two elements: an electrified aluminium track and one or more linear luminaires that are incorporated into this track and interconnected with each other.

Characterised by high impact resistance and high watertightness, CTR is perfect for sustainable, efficient lighting of any type of indoor industrial space. It can also incorporate an emergency kit, such as the one installed in this pavilion, with a back-up battery so that the luminaire can continue to light the space in the event of a power cut, thus guaranteeing its safety.

For the triangular-square annexes, the HBL solution was chosen, a product designed for industrial spaces with a compact, lightweight design, which facilitates assembly and installation operations, accelerates heat dissipation and reduces dust accumulation.

Both luminaires installed have a robust design and are made from aluminium and glass, ensuring that they can be recycled at the end of their long service life.

CONNECTED LIGHTING FOR INDUSTRIAL FACILITIES

To achieve greater energy efficiency, Fira Internacional de Barcelona decided to install the CONTROLUX INDUSTRIAL control system for industrial spaces, designed by Carandini.

Controlux Industrial is a solution that allows fully customisable lighting scenes to be configured with the aim of adapting the light to changes in layout at any given time, taking into account people’s visual, emotional and biological needs. As the Fira de Barcelona space is very changeable, depending on whether an event is being held or not, or whether the event is in the assembly phase or in full celebration, the client needed to have its own programme of lighting scenes for each situation.

Taking this into account, Carandini’s smart lighting department designed 8 different programmes, which can be controlled via a push-button panel, allowing the client to manage the lighting of the entire pavilion as a whole and, at the same time, control the lighting for individual areas, considering how these are used, the required visibility and the visual comfort of workers and users.

RESULTS ACHIEVED

The installation of these new luminaires, carried out by Comsa Service Facility Management, S.A.U., resulted in increased lighting levels, more uniform dispersion and excellent visibility. In addition, it achieved energy savings of between 40% and 50% from the point of commissioning.

Good quality lighting in industrial spaces is essential to provide safety, prevent accidents and achieve better productivity as well as improving work and cognitive ability.

HBL

Solution for industrial spaces designed to offer maximum visual comfort. It is characterised by excellent uniformity and superb energy efficiency. Designed to illuminate attractive, safe and productive workspaces.

CTR

Highly flexible linear system that permits efficiently and uniformly illuminating interior industrial spaces. It is formed by an electrified aluminium rail to which one or more interconnected linear luminaires are incorporated.

CONTROLUX INDUSTRIAL

Solution for the control, monitoring, and management of lighting in industrial facilities. Designed to control and adapt the lighting in different work areas, taking into account the characteristics of the environment, the visual and biological needs of the people and the time of day. It uses smart devices, such as sensors, that adjust the lighting based on productive needs and allow light to be applied only when necessary.
