PORTO VECCHIO HARBOUR, CORSICA – FRANCE

Porto Vecchio, France

Porto-Vecchio is the third largest city on the island of Corsica, and a major tourist resort that attracts thousands of holidaymakers each summer. Known as the “city of salt”, it’s noted for its spectacular beaches, exceptional natural environment and welcoming marina.

Located in the southeast of the island, Porto-Vecchio’s harbour was built at the bottom of the bay to protect the inhabitants from attacks by barbarians. Centuries later, the marina is now a lively tourist area packed with restaurants, ice-cream parlours and cafés, ideal for taking a stroll, going for a sail or having lunch with the family.

PROTECTING THE NIGHT SKY

In 2018, new regulations on light pollution, Arreté 27/12/2018, were introduced in France with the aim of protecting the natural world, the landscape and the night sky. This new decree specified how lighting should be designed with a view to preventing, limiting and reducing disturbance to people, flora and fauna or ecosystems, avoid energy wastage and light pollution that might impede the observation of the sky at night.

The luminaires installed in the port at Porto-Vecchio did not comply with these new regulations, which mean that the local authorities needed to replace the installed lighting with a more eco-friendly solution, one that was more efficient and that was in line with the Arreté 27/12/2018 regulations.

They chose Carandini’s C-LINE luminaire, a comprehensive solution characterised by an elegantly minimalist design that integrates perfectly with any urban environment. It is perfect for enhancing public spaces and providing safety and comfort for people and the local environment.

A total of 65 C-LINE units were installed with a colour temperature of 3000K, low energy consumption (20W) and a colour rendering index (CRI) of over 80.

GREATER SAFETY AND REDUCED ENERGY CONSUMPTION

This project has succeeded in protecting the natural ecosystem of the area, saving energy and, at the same time, ensuring public safety.

With the installation of the C-LINE solution, one of the most popular tourist areas of the island has been revitalised by significantly improving the quality of light, making the port a safe and pleasant place for both locals and visitors to enjoy.

C-LINE

Its minimalist style, its simple assembly design and its optical distributions make the C-Line luminaire provide a complete lighting solution.
