The San Pedro de Visma Municipal Football Fields, located in A Coruña, Spain, are important sports facilities for the city, mainly used for local football. The complex includes two artificial turf fields: the north field, which measures 100 x 63 meters, and the south field, which measures 105 x 68 meters. Both fields are designed to accommodate training sessions as well as official competitions.

LED LIGHTING FOR BETTER PLAYING CONDITIONS

Over the years, this sports complex has undergone significant improvements and renovations, including the upgrading of the artificial turf and drainage system, as well as the construction of a new covered stand in the north field.

In 2022, as part of A Coruña’s public lighting modernization plan, the City Council decided to take another step forward and upgrade the lighting of these two football fields to LED technology. This intervention aimed to achieve four key objectives: improve lighting quality, reduce energy consumption, simplify maintenance and adapt the lighting to various sporting activities.

To achieve these goals, we conducted a preliminary study of the playing fields to design a lighting plan that would ensure uniform light distribution without generating shadows. As a result, the ATHLOS solution at 3000K was implemented, a modular LED technology that offers great photometric flexibility. This solution not only provides safe and comfortable conditions for users but also maximizes energy efficiency, delivering superior performance.

After the installation of the lighting system, pitch measurements were taken to verify light levels and ensure the client’s requirements were met.

UNIFORM LIGHTING FOR EXCELLENT VISIBILITY

The replacement of the old floodlights with ATHLOS luminaires has resulted in energy savings of over 50%. Additionally, the new lighting has not only reduced maintenance operations, thanks to the durability and robustness of the LED technology, but has also achieved uniform lighting without shadows, improving the experience for both players and spectators.

The City Council, players and supporters are extremely satisfied with the new lighting, which has made a significant difference in both football fields.
